::: features & benefits :::
ProvIdent is a web-based application designed to securely and reliably migrate users from passwords to smart cards as a means for accessing networks and applications.

The primary function of ProvIdent is to acquire user credentials and provision them into an authentication system so the credentials can be verified at login or used to encrypt email. Although these credentials can be stored in a variety of devices and the authentication system may vary as well, the process is essentially the same:
        1. ProvIdent takes the credentials (fields contained the signature certificate) supplied
            by the user when they register.
        2. ProvIdent authenticates these credentials and then "binds" them to the user’s
            account in the authentication system or creates a new user account in that system.
        3. Once this process is completed, the user presents these credentials at login and the
            authentication system can verify the user's identity by matching the credendials
            with the values stored in the user's account.

ProvIdent enables organizations and administrators to:
        * Administer and automate the lifecycle of user accounts including:
                * Account creation
                * Account activation/deactivation
        * Grant or revoke permissions for users and ProvIdent administrators
        * User Notifications to ensure that their CAC’s and certificates stay up to date
        * View and update user and administrative user accounts
        * Provision certificates in Microsoft Exchange for encryption purposes

The current implementation of ProvIdent enables organizations running Microsoft Active Directory to allow users to log onto the network using a SmartCard or Common Access Card (CAC).

ProvIdent features an extendable architecture that can integrate with other authentication systems and devices as well.
